Labor Day Parade - Charlotte, NC

***Click here for a printable version with directions***

Once again our local union is participating in Charlotte’s Labor Day Parade on September 6th and you are invited to walk with your fellow union members. We will have a high quality Cascadia truck to display in the parade with us that was proudly built by our member’s right here in Cleveland, NC.

This is our one chance each year to show we exist in numbers, are diverse and have solidarity along with other unions and community groups. The goal is to have 50 people from our local attend.

Bring family, friends and neighbors they can walk with us in the parade or support us as spectators in the parade.

If possible, please RSVP by calling George Drexel at 704-798-4221 or email president@uawlocal3520.org  with the number attending so we can make sure there will be enough supplies. Contact the same with questions. Wear your union shirt if you have one, if not contact George and see if there is one available for you.

  • Parade assembly begins at 9am at 701 North College Street in Charlotte, parade marshals will greet you and tell you where to park
  • Look for the Cascadia Truck, that’s where we will be or ask the parade marshal
  • Parade begins at 11am
  • Parade route is down Tryon Street from 10th to 3rd Street, and ending at College and 3rd Street

(AFl-CIO) Unbelievable. Two years, hundreds of billions of dollars and millions of lost jobs later, Congress still hasn't acted to rein in Wall Street to protect Main Street.

We can't let the Big Banks off the hook, and by working together we will be even more powerful than the Wall Street millionaires and their lobbyists and allies in Congress: We want Good Jobs Now and Wall Street Must Pay.

At hundreds of actions across the country we've taken your message straight to the very banks that are fighting meaningful reform, and UAW Local 3520 joined with the AFL-CIO, dozens of local unions and dozens of community groups in North Carolina. The Reverend Jesse Jackson (pictured with local 3520 president george Drexel) joined the fight for the people against big banks.

As of today CTMP clerical workers have a voice in the workplace. By large majority in an NLRB election they chose to be represented by the UAW and become part of UAW Local 3520.

Today they have achieved dignity and respect in the workplace and now have a voice in workplace matters.

Please welcome and support our new brothers and sisters. Congratulations!

In Solidarity,
George Drexel

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The strike vote was overwhelmingly in favor of strike action if necessary. It is clear the membership (our Union) has taken a firm stand for an equitable contract.

TOGETHER WE STAND, DIVEDED WE FALL…..SOLIDARITY, SOLIDARITY, SOLIDARITY!

I Remain In Solidarity,
George Drexel

********A special membership meeting has been called for this Saturday March 27 starting at 2pm at the union hall********

This meeting is very important to understand what is going on in bargaining and to show our bargaining committee that they have 100% of our support through a strike authorization vote.

The Assistant Director of UAW Heavy Truck Department and other International Representatives will be present at this meeting.

Make no mistake about it, we are engaged in an extremely difficult set of negotiations. We need ALL MEMBERS to attend this meeting to establish our position as a union in solidarity.

UAW LOCAL 5285 Wins Arbitration

UAW Local 5285, Mt Holly, has been successful in winning the arbitration in large part due to their over 98% union membership when the company sent trucks to be built in Mexico. This effectively shows the reason for a contract and a strong union work force working together to secure jobs.

What does this mean for UAW Local 3520 members?

Because we also have a Union at Cleveland we have the ability to challenge truck builds being sent to Mexico. We, as a union, are doing everything possible to get as many trucks as possible built in Cleveland.

Only by standing in SOLIDARITY do we have the opportunity to prevail in our struggle to get laid off workers back in the plant and protect seniority so we all can provide for ourselves and our families.

Only as one union can we fight for jobs and fight we will as one union.
